Bioenergy: Refueling the Future

Chevron is one of the leading biofuel innovators of today.  They are a major buyer and blender of biofuels, primarily ethanol.  In the United States alone, more than 70 percent of the gasoline Chevron sells contains ethanol.  Chevron also has a business unit called Chevron Technology Ventures  that conducts research on advanced biofuels.  [14.1]

Solazyme is one of the leading renewable oil and bioproducts companies.  All of their biofuel products are based upon oil derived from algae.

Solazyme has created and test driven the world's first 100% cellulosic-derived diesel fuel from algae.  [14.3]

The family owned company POET is a leading innovator in cellulosic ethanol.  According to their website, "[They have] a network of 27 plants in seven states and produce more than 1.6 billion gallons of ethanol annually."  Their main focuses are reliability and efficiency.  [14.4]

Amyris, UC Berkely's biotechonology company,  is currently at the top of Biofuels Digest's top 50 biofuel companies.  According to their website, "Amyris is at the forefront of this emerging field, using Synthetic Biology to tackle problems for which nature has yet to find a solution." [14.11]
