California sets the ambitious goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050.



According to Biodiesel Magazine, "BARD Holdings Inc. recently announced its shift from research and development to the commercialization phase of its algae production technology."  They plan on constructing three new facilities.  The first is expected to make 40,000 gallons of algae oil per year.  The second is expected to produce 280,000 to 300,000 gallons and the third is expected to make 13 to 15 million a year.

According to MSNBC, "Solazyme’s goal is to produce algae-based crude oils that cost between $60 and $80 per barrel, which would make it competitive with oil, currently trading for about $80 a barrel."
